who we are

notegpt is a note-taking app that uses AI to transcribe audio, summarize PDFs and YouTube videos, and generate structured notes. This policy describes what data we handle and how.

what we collect

Audio recordings — When you record audio in the app, the file is saved on your phone. To generate notes, we send the audio to our processing servers temporarily.

Uploaded files — PDFs and audio files you upload are sent to our processing servers to generate notes.

YouTube links — When you paste a YouTube link, we fetch the video's content via our servers to generate notes.

Generated content — The notes, transcripts, and flashcards that are produced from your inputs are stored on your phone.

Usage data — We collect anonymous analytics about how the app is used (which features, error rates, performance) via Mixpanel. This data does not include your note content, transcripts, file names, or recordings.

Subscription info — Apple manages all subscription payments. We do not see your payment details. We only know whether your subscription is active.

how we use it

  • To transcribe your audio and generate notes, summaries, and flashcards.
  • To improve the app's reliability and identify bugs.
  • To enforce free-tier limits and verify subscriptions.

third parties

We use the following services to make notegpt work:

  • Google Gemini — for audio transcription
  • OpenAI — for note generation and summarization
  • Mixpanel — for anonymous usage analytics
  • Apple — for in-app subscriptions

When we send your audio or text to Gemini or OpenAI, it is processed and returned. We do not authorize these providers to use your content for training their models.

data retention

Audio files and generated notes live on your phone. We do not store your audio files or notes on our servers after processing. To delete your data, delete the note in the app or uninstall the app entirely.

your rights

You can delete any note from within the app. You can revoke microphone, notification, and file access permissions at any time in your phone's Settings. Uninstalling the app removes all on-device data.
